Children's Garden
The growing wattle fence openings beckon children to come and explore. Following the alphabet around the area is one way children are helped to focus on various aspects of
the garden. There's a bean tent where children can enter
and feel special. In another section the cockle shells and bluebells bring nursery rhymes to mind.Sunflowers in various sizes and types are awesome. The fragrance of the sweet peas and the aroma of the peanut butter plant are only a few of the smells we can experience here.
Steppingstones lead us to a tiny fairy house, and on the way the strawberry plants give delight when the berries are ripe. Several interesting creatures are hiding in the various beds, e.g. a turtle covered with succulents.
A thyme bench made out of hypertufa allows children to sit, touch and smell the fragrances there and in the sundial bed behind it. A hebe plant houses a tiny chair just right for a child to sit and hide away.
The vegetable beds change with the seasons. Children can help weed, taste lettuce, broccoli and peas and learn about the different aspects of these plants. On the way out there's a crib where nasturtiums are growing, and tubs hold various types of soils and pots which children can use to experience potting.

Grandparents can come with the little ones in the family to enjoy the garden together. It's also available to teachers to book tours during the school year. Hands-on activities can be planned for school groups.
The Children's Garden is located just down the steps from the rotunda. Adults can relax and watch the children explore the many opportunities provided in this garden designed especially for them.
