Grow it Cook it Eat itThe GCE program at Glendale Gardens will connect the local masters to you and your home taking full advantage of the educational facilities of HCP to teach and assist you in growing delicious, nutritious food.
This program includes:
Mentorship by local Seniors both at Glendale Gardens & a once a month visit to your home.
A Combination of Hands-on & Classroom lessons led by Horticulturist Linda Petite will teach best garden practices.
The lessons will include propagation, soils, composting, planning & succession planting, crop rotation, organic pest & disease control, container gardening & much more.
Food Preparation by local chefs.
The lessons will include knife skills, stock preparation, how to preserve the harvest and much more. |

Propagation from CuttingsJudith Mclauchlan will teach this comprehensive course on propagation from cuttings and will concentrate on how to get the best results with plants that can be a challenge even for the experts! She will cover: set-up including materials required, how & when to take cuttings and aftercare. Participants are encouraged to bring what they would like to propagate-please call for instructions on how to collect samples. All will go home with a great collection for their gardens! |

Introduction to BasketryLevel 2
Pine Needle Coiled Basket
In this session with Joan Carrigan, you will make a pine needle coiled basket using both raffia and waxed linen thread. It begins with a short/long stitch using the raffia and the sides are plain and V-stitched with waxed linen thread. Joan will have extra long California pine needles for you to use but she will talk about gathering and preparing local varieties of pine needles.
Tools to bring: an old towel or tea towel, scissors with a sharp point,
tapestry needle (size 20 or 22)
